Dallas, TX personal injury–Fatal head injury claims Tarleton State football player

Stephenville, TX (News)—Just two days after sustaining a head injury during a spring practice, a Tarleton State University football player died on Monday, March 29, 2010. Amy K. Witherite, Dallas, Texas’ leading brain injury lawyer reports, Zachary Shaver passed away at 10:30 a.m., at Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital after receiving a blow to the head on Saturday, according to the Star-Telegram.
Shaver, 18, of Wichita Falls, a defensive lineman at Tarleton State University, was reportedly airlifted from Tarleton Memorial Stadium to Harris Methodist after he and another player fell to the ground during a “routine football play.” An offensive lineman was apparently blocking Shaver, who was 6’11” tall and 275 pounds, when they both hit the ground. As Shaver tried to stand up, he collapsed back onto the group.  A University spokesperson stated it appeared the two players “did not have helmet-to-helmet contact, and it was unclear how Shaver was injured.”
The university athletic trainers immediately cared for Shaver until he was airlifted by medical helicopter to the hospital.  The cause of death has yet to be determined; officials are awaiting the Tarrant County medical examiner’s report.
