Eberstein & Witherite Support Breast Cancer Research
Eberstein & Witherite attorney, Shelly Greco, will be joining other Dallas Fort Worth residents in this year’s Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™. Shelly’s mother, Margaret Tomlin, died of breast cancer at the age of 54. Her grandmother was a 40 year breast cancer survivor and her legendary high school basketball coach, Coach Sandra Meadows of Duncanville, also died of breast cancer. Shelly is walking in honor of these and other women in her life who have been touched by this deadly disease.
Shelly has participated in the Dallas, Plano and Lubbock Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5k fundraisers over the years. However, the 3-Day walk is a much larger commitment. The 3-Day walk requires participants to raise a minimum of $2300 and walk 20 miles per day for 3 consecutive days for a total of 60 miles while camping in tents overnight. The walk requires months of training and fundraising on behalf of the participants; however, Shelly is taking on the challenge in hopes that she can be a part of finding a cure for breast cancer providing treatment to women in our community. It also serves as a reminder of the hardships, bravery and sacrifices made by those going through breast cancer treatment and is a way for Shelly to feel she is doing something to make a difference in a fight that has had such an impact on her life and the ones she loves.
The net proceeds from the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™ are invested in breast cancer research and community programs. The proceeds from the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure fund innovative global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment. Virtually every major advance in the fight against breast cancer in the last 28 years has been impacted by a Susan G. Komen for the Cure grant. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure® and the Komen 3-Day for the Cure, the organization has invested more than $1.5 billion to fulfill its promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
